The Southern Senators Forum (SSF) has expressed grief over the passing of Bode Olowoporoku.

Born on September 29, 1945, the deceased was a Minister of Science and Technology in the Second Republic when Shehu Shahari was in power.

Olowoporoku died after an illness. He was Ekiti South Senator between 2003 and 2007 on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform.

Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, SSF Chairman, in a condolence message on behalf of the 51 Senators from the geopolitical zones in Nigeria’s South, commiserated with the people of Ekiti.

“The late Senator was perceived to be one of the most active Senators during the fourth National Assembly. His brilliant contributions to topical issues of national interest, were found to be superb, outstanding and beneficial to the progress of the country.”

Bamidele noted that his detrabilistic mien manifested in a political sojourn and was a member of political parties at different times, “largely assessed to be products of good conscience and principle”.

Governor Kayode Fayemi said the former Commissioner for Economic Development in the old Ondo State was a brilliant economist and statesman.

Fayemi recalled that Olowoporoku and prominent Ekiti monarchs, scholars, politicians, and community leaders spent resources, time and energy to ensure the state’s creation.

Olowoporoku contested for the 2018 governorship election in Ekiti as the candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress Party (NDCP).
