Gareth Southgate, has reacted to John Stones’s mistake that led to Poland’s goal in England World Cup qualifier 2-1 win on Wednesday.
England took the lead in the hard-fought Group I clash after Harry Kane scored from the spot but Poland were gifted an equaliser in the 58th minute after Stones conceded possession on the edge of the box.
Stones picked himself up and assisted Harry Maguire’s emphatic strike with five minutes remaining on the clock.
Stone headed down Phil Foden’s corner brilliantly for Maguire, who fired in to ensure that the Three Lions went home with all three points.
Speaking on Stones’s blunder just before the hour-mark, Southgate told ITV Sport: “He’s managed to compose himself for the rest of the game and had a part in the winning goal which was important.
“You can fold in those moments and he didn’t.
“He’s been having a really good season. He’s made a mistake tonight, he knows that.
“But he bounced back from it during the game and he’s got to keep doing that.”
