Chelsea defender, Marcos Alonso has given his verdict on the club’s new signing, Saul Niguez.

Chelsea completed their loan deal to sign Saul from Atletico Madrid on deadline day. They also have the option to make the Spain midfielder stay at Stamford Bridge permanently for £30 million next summer.

Saul is in line to make his debut for Chelsea against Aston Villa after the international break, having already trained with some of his new teammates.

Saul helped Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid team win the LaLiga ahead of Real Madrid and Barcelona last season.

The 26-year-old Spain international is slightly out of favour in Simeone’s team and so, had to jump on the opportunity to leave the club on loan.

“I know Saul from the national team, and also we shared a manager from when we were in the Real Madrid academy,” Alonso told Chelsea’s official website.

“He’s a great player. His conditions are going to be good for the Premier League.

“He is strong physically, he is very good in the air, and those are things you need when you move to this league.

“He is ready to kick off and hopefully we can take advantage of his qualities and he will be of great help to the team, because it’s going to be a long year, with a lot of competitions.”
