A women advocacy group, African Women Forum for Good Governance (AWFG), has praised Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano for recognizing and rewarding Mrs Eunice Ngozi Onuegbusi, an Ukwulu indigene who rejected N5,000 bribe offered her by a political party agent to sell her vote.
Mrs. Onuegbusi had been seen in a viral video that surfaced online during the just concluded governorship election in the state vehemently rejecting a bribe from an opposition party agent.
Governor Willie Obiano had on Thursday, in appreciation invited and recognised her with a cash reward of N1 million.
Reacting to the developments, the AWFG chair, Justice Chinwe Iyizoba, lauded Obiano for recognizing her, saying such could serve as a morale booster to other women.
Iyizoba said, ‘It is necessary for our politicians to learn that the only way to make progress in politics is by providing the people who elected them into office with good governance – through the provision of the necessary social amenities to make life worth living, good roads, good schools, jobs, good healthcare, water supply, electricity.
”We call on the government, public and private institutions to recognize the importance and relevance of women in the scheme of things,” she said.
Iyizoba added that women deserve greater representation in governance at all levels.
She said ”women, as mothers of the nation, know where the shoe pinches and have a lot to say and contribute towards making things better.
